To qualify for a short-term personal loan from Mpowa Finance, you must meet the following requirements:
Mpowa Finance offers same-day loan payouts for approved applicants. If you complete your application, submit your documents, and an employment confirmation is successfully conducted on the same day, your money will be in your bank account by 5:00 PM. Applicants who apply before 3:00 PM on business days have the best chance of receiving same-day payment.
Mpowa Finance offers personal loans of up to R7,000, repaid over a 3-month term. Your actual loan offer depends on your affordability — calculated using your net monthly salary minus your existing monthly expenses and debit orders. First-time applicants typically receive an offer suited to their affordability profile, and the maximum increases as you build a repayment history with us.
To qualify, you must be a South African citizen or permanent resident, 18 years or older, and permanently employed — not self-employed or a contractor. You must have been in your current job for at least 3 months, earn a regular monthly salary paid into a South African bank account, and hold a valid 13-digit South African ID. You will also need to accept a DebiCheck debit order mandate to confirm your repayment schedule.
Unfortunately, Mpowa Finance requires that you have been in your current job for at least 3 months before applying. This ensures your income is stable and that we can perform a reliable employment confirmation. If you recently changed jobs, we recommend applying again once you have completed your 3-month probation period.
Mpowa Finance charges a once-off initiation fee of 16.5% (incl. VAT) on the first R1,000 of your loan, and 10% on any amount above R1,000. A monthly service fee of R60 applies for each month of the loan term. The standard monthly interest rate is 5% per month; if you take out a repeat loan within the same calendar year, the rate drops to 3% per month. All fees comply with the National Credit Act (NCA) and are regulated by the NCR.
Repayments are collected via a DebiCheck debit order — a bank-authenticated debit order system mandated by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). When you accept your loan offer, your bank will send a DebiCheck mandate request via SMS or banking app, which you must approve before your loan is disbursed. The debit order is then collected on your salary date each month over the 3-month term.
You must inform Mpowa Finance of any changes to your banking or employment details before your payday. If we attempt to collect a repayment and your banking details have changed without notice, the debit order will fail and your credit record will be negatively affected. To update your details, log in to your Mpowa account or contact us on 0861 228 228 as early as possible.
Once you have successfully repaid at least 3 Mpowa loans, you may be eligible to apply for a higher loan amount. Your affordability is reassessed with each new application, so maintaining a good repayment record improves your chances of approval for a larger loan. Timely DebiCheck payments and stable employment are the two biggest factors in qualifying for an increase.
